CBD and Anxiety: Information Everyone Should Know

Recently, CBD (cannabidiol) oil has become a popular remedy for anxiety. While some people use CBD oil for soothing day-to-day worries, others use it for treating more severe conditions, such as generalized anxiety disorder.

A compound that is found in the marijuana plant, cannabidiol, has increased in overall availability as the use of marijuana is legalized in more states throughout the country. More and more companies are also marketing their CBD products for anxiety-related issues, which is another reason for the surge in use.

Today, CBD can be found in several different forms and products, including salves, supplements, gummies, and more. Usually, these are used as natural remedies for relief from pain and anxiety.

Common Ways CBD Is Used for Anxiety

Anxiety-related disorders are considered the most common mental illnesses in the United States. In fact, anxiety disorders affect over 18% of the population every year. While anxiety disorders are usually treated using medication, psychotherapy, or a combination of the two, some people decide not to use these standard approaches and self-treat using CBD oil.

According to a recent study, approximately 62% of cannabidiol users have reported that they used CBD for treating a medical condition. The top three conditions treated with this include depression, anxiety, and pain.

Since there is still limited research, there are many scientists who are not aware of how CBD oil may help with the treatment of problems like anxiety. Some research has suggested that, along with impacting a person’s endocannabinoid system, cannabidiol can impact the receptors that are involved in regulating serotonin. This is a chemical messenger believed to help with anxiety regulation.

Research Related to CBD Use and Anxiety

To date, most of the evidence related to the effects of CBD for anxiety is derived from lab experiments and animal studies. According to a report that was published in 2015 in Neurotherapeutics, scientists worked on analyzing the preliminary research and discovered that CBD oil offered some level of promise in the acute treatment of certain conditions, such as post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder.

Even though there are no large-scale clinical trials right now testing the use of CBD oil for treating anxiety, a smaller study determined that CBD could help alleviate cases of social anxiety. This is something to note when thinking about using this product.

CBD Oil and Anxiety: Does It Work?

There are still a lot of conflicting opinions regarding if CBD oil can really help with anxiety. This is something that each person has to consider and figure out for themselves. Remember, CBD is going to affect each person differently, which means they need to carefully consider what product to use and how much of it to use.

By taking the time to learn about CBD and how it may be beneficial for anxiety-related conditions, a person can determine if this is something they want to use. Being informed and knowing the facts are the best ways to ensure the desired results are achieved.
